I highly recommend using 1.3-dev (aka trunk). It's much much better than
1.2, especially the admin interface and quite stable. We don't plan to
add groundbreaking now stuff here in the near future, and if we do, we
will branch it off. Having saidd that, this shouldn't affect the unicode
stuff since that didn't change

I have no entities in the source code there.

Does your php some automatic output-conversion? (no idea, if that's
possible at all, maybe with the mbstring extension).
