Campsite 2.3.0 install problem

Using puTTy.exe as ssh client, I migrate to my campsite directory ans type
'./install'.  I am not logged in as root, but instructions say I will be
prompted for root password.  That does not happen.  As soon as I type
install, I get error message: './install: Permission denied.'

Why do I not get the prompt for root password?
