The reason I have my eye on CS is that it is .net based. Alas, we are a
.net shop and we only shop for .net solutions, which cuts out options
down pretty quickly. :/

I agree. And, to be fair to sharepoint, that's what it's supposed to
exccel at. That said, as mentioned, there's a number of factors that
lead me to believe that a succeful Sharepoint implementation isn't worth
the ROI.

Excellent list there. I agree. 

Corporate Documents is probably the key issue. Much of our intranet will
be simple lists of Word files, with 'online info' following (simple
pages folks can edit).

Business tools/communications are likely features we'd just build
ourselves, rather than force a product to our needs. 

Collaboration we might try to handle with MS Teamsites. We'll see how
that goes.
