In 1997 the first market research report on content management was published (by our group then at CAP Ventures). 500 users were asked what they were using and doing etc. I don't have a copy of the report anymore, but the results were that well over 80% of companies who said they were doing "content management" were using Lotus Notes or MS Exchange. No one else had more than a handful of customers including Vignette and Interwoven and dozens of others than showed up on the survey. Information week worked with us on this research so either they or CAP Ventures (now InfoTrends) should have more info.
