I asked this a few weeks ago myself, and I never followed up. First of all,
thanks for all the responses...I appreciated them!

I agree with this. I really liked Xstandard. The pros for me were it's
excellent table controls and the nice 'screen reader' preview.

The big con, and which led us not to choose it, was that its interface is a
bit complex/bloated and wasn't easily editable. As such, we found that it
was just going to be 'too much' for our users.

We ended up going with CuteEdit. We still need to do some configuration on
it to get better xhtml output. It has a nice interface and a great Word
cleaner (which we needed). 

The only catch is that you can't seem to edit tables, and we're finding that
people are pasting in tables from word, which have hard-coded widths that
are causing some problems that we're going to need to workaround.

In the end, after looking at about 20+ editors, I found that they are pretty
much like CMS systems. There are a lot of generic/mediocre products
competing with each other that do pretty much the same as everyone else, but
aren't really that great to begin with.

P.S...I did look at FCKeditor and just noticed that it's been bumped up to
version 2.0...might be worth a look...

It's free, and now cross-browser compatible (a nice plus IMHO...though it
seems to not support FireFox yet.)
