Drupal is a really powerful platform. It's fairly easy to set up (I'm a
scripting idiot but have managed to set up two Drupal sites) and comes with
a ton of potentially useful plug-ins. But modifying the look and feel can be
a problem if you're not used to monkeying around with PHP. And its search
module isn't really all that good - it only shows you the headlines of items
(for $40, get a copy of Fluid Dynamics Search Engine - a great Perl search
engine). Movable Type has a ton of tags you can use to do some pretty
powerful stuff without touching the underlying code, but you'd need to look
at the new licensing terms (it starts at $199 for a five-author license).
