RE: Anyone use Sharepoint Portal?

We have used the Sharepoint product in the past and found it to be useful
but difficult to setup and integrate with.  It may have been our lack of
experience though.

If we were doing a redesign we would probably go with a solution like the
DMS 400 by Ektron.  Often we have needs to be integrated with a CMS. Here is
a link, http://ektron.com/dms400.aspx.  One of the nice features is it
integrates nicely with other Ektron products and built on the Microsoft .Net
platform.

We use it here at work and implement quite a few of them.  Since it's the
biggest integration point with MS Office products it works nicely with the
desktop and the OS.

Yes, you could build a nice tool yourselves (and we've even told our clients
this much).  Some insist on going with Sharepoint or Vignette whereas we
would rather develop something that meets 'all' their needs and get it
right.

Part of the fear from the business is the future extensibility of the
framework.  Can what you designed be added on to?  They got burned with Y2K
upgrades which cost millions so they're staying with packaged solutions even
though their IT groups are screaming that they're overpriced and
under-featured.

That's my two-cents.
