I have been working with eZ Publish and Plone. Both are in the top tier of open source CMS but they are very different applications. Both are: * Commercially supported * Well documented with professionally written books available * Widely used (eZ publish more in Northern Europe) * Well managed and stable Plone starts out (from the basic install) as a kind of collaborative workspace which, through skins, you can make into a regular website. As a collaborative workspace, Plone excels at handling binary files with good metadata support, and features like discussions threads around a document and very powerful workflow model. Plone sits on top of Zope. To adapt Plone to your needs, you will learn Zope's Page Template language TAL and METAL and a little bit of Python. eZ publish starts out as a pure web CMS. The workflow model is not as elaborate as Plone's but is powerful enough for most basic uses. eZ Publish comes with 20 content types which can be put together to assemble pages. To configure eZ Publish you will need to know PHP and eZ publish's scripting language. eZ publish has a sophisticated versioning/multi-language capability but Plone does not. Hope this helps, feel free to ask me more specific questions. Also, if you need help with this project, my company (Optaros: www.optaros.com) specializes in helping clients select and implement open source content management solutions ( http://www.optaros.com/solutions_content.html ). --- Ann Sofie Kaalen <annsk-/[email protected]> wrote: > Hi, > we have been evaluating several CMS for our upcoming > intra - and internet project, and have landed on two > candidates: EzPublish or Plone. > > Anyone have any experiences with these two, and have > any recommendations?
