Seth,

I'd agree that Plone does offer only light version
control/rollback capabilities (the 'undo' link/tab)
out-of-the-box, but thought I'd clarify:

Plone does offer versioning and multi-lingual /
internationalization tools as 'add-on' products that
do not accompany the default Plone install.

You may want to look at the LinguaPlone, CMFEdition,
and PVSForPlone2.

To Ann's original question, I'd say that as long as
you work with a vendor that's proficient in the tool,
you're likely to have success with either CMS - they
both provide a good framework to build on.

I've personally implemented Plone as a collaboration
portal tool for thousands of users that are medical
association members, and it's been very well received
as a platform. Very easy to administer, support,
enhance, for non-techies to use, etc.

I've also helped one of the largest U.S. media
companies use the Plone CMS interface as a means of
managing content that is served on multiple
public-facing, high-volume sites that look nothing
like the Plone CMS - these sites look like whatever
graphical design the web designers dreamed up.

So, I've seen it be successful in both situations. In
my experience, Plone's workflow capabilties are far
more than what is needed for publishing a public
website, but are exactly what's needed for creating
custom workflows for an intranet/extranet site
(trigger email notifications, move/copy objects,
complex approval chains, etc.) Other open source
tools won't come close for your WF needs on the
intranet app. Even some commercial tools can't
compare.

For high-volume sites, especially those with
personalization to the logged in user, expect to have
an EXPERT in whatever technology (Zope versus
PHP/MySQL) you select. No tool is a magic bullet on
this one - perhaps this isn't a concern for you,
though.

Cheers and best of luck!
