I have to say that I think it is correct that you have go into the media
library to make changes to properties of uploaded items such as images and
files.  These "objects" are available for use anywhere on  the site - to
allow changes to properties to be made with a specific piece of content is
just asking for trouble, as it will change the properties throughout the
site.

I also think it would also defeat the whole reusability of these items if
you were to have individual properties dependent on the content object.
You'd lose the ability to globally update an item from one location and
would have to go through and find every location its used and update it
manually.
