This is a common problem I get with most of my clients as well.  When they
need to modify a file (usually PDF) or an image they have to go to the media
library and try to track it down.  They have thousands and thousands of
files so this makes the process very tedious (and I constantly hear
complaints).  Filtering with categories only helps a little (they really do
have thousands of PDFs).  The client eventually gets frustrated and stops
using FarCry (or asks me to do it for them defeating the purpose of the
CMS).

 

What they'd like is the ability to modify the file/image from the associated
object (like dmHTML).  I understand Stephen's concern, so here's a proposal.
Maybe just warn them when editing a file/image if it is associated with
other objects/item (warning: This file/image is also associated with X/Y/Z.
If you modify this object it will also be reflected on those items as well.
etc).  Another simple setting (in case you really want to lock this down) is
to have a simple boolean in the FarCry config (for files and images) to
enable or disable this feature.
