You can rewrite the urls with an Apache server in front end (cf: 
http://www.jahia.org/jahia/Jahia/devzone/architecture/pid/360 )

Then you can perfectly have site (cf: www.unil.ch) with shorter urls.

BTW: you can modify the jahia/Jahia thing (please check the Jahia technical 
FAQ) and this is mandatory in Java (servlet name + context) so we can not 
change that.
