Use of the matrix paramter in URLs

hi all,

links in my Jahia application sometimes have a "matrix" parameter at the end of the URL, ex:
http://localhost:8080/jahia/Jahia/engineName/sitemap/pid/1?matrix=1110303887916

and the matrix value varies I don't understand how.

I'm trying to parse my Jahia site with a site crawler tool "HTTRack" but it loops indefinitely
because it always finds a link with a different matrix value for the sitemap link

Could anyone explain what the matrix parameter is for?
and if it's possible to disable it?
