Hi Dimitris,

This would be a bit too easy, isn'it?

The Jahia codebase is divided in two parts with two distinct licenses:
- the community part which is released under a
100% open-source MPL-like license. This
corresponds roughly to 80% of the codebase.
- Commercial extensions released under a more
restricted but still with full source code
license: the sustainable license
(www.sustainablesoftware.info for more information).
So even if you have the source code of such
extensions as part of the overall Jahia
distributions and even if you are free to take a
look into them, modify them or even redistribute
them, you are only entitltes to use them for
research and development purposes. As soon as you
want to use them for production, you need to pay
some royalties (that you can pay in cash... or in
kind by contributing to the software).

This what we call our "sustainable business
model". We offer for free 80% of the codebase but
we still need to make our livings. So active
contributors get free credit licenses and other
need to pay a form of cash contribution to the
project. Like for any associations where you have
some yearly subscription fees... I think this is
quite fair given the amount of work and
investments all current stakeholders provided to this project.

Cheers,
Stéphane
