It can, but someone has to create the Debian package specification to
build the debs.   Supporting Debian and derivatives are not on my to-do
list but I'd facilitate anyone who wants to try.  

Working RPM repositories are very near to complete at this point.

Current versions run well with PostgreSQL 8.3 so long as you accomidate
it with a *simple* schema change.

And I'd recommend 8.3 over previous versions as performance is great.
