Re: New Website for opengroupware.org project

Hi Folks!

My two cents worth...

Why throw away something (ie the Plone Docs site and
the user docs site) when it only needs a face lift and
a tune up?  That would be like having to buy a new car
because it doesn't have the paint job you want and the
engine needs a tune up!

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but there's
nothing wrong with using Plone for the Docs, www, and
User sites.  In fact, it would make things easier,
because good content could get migrated from one part
(users) to either Docs or www.  It's integrated
workflow and features will cover off a lot of
different needs, once those needs are clearly
identified and defined.

I started using Zope for my businesses website based
on Chris H.'s recommendations (via private e-mails),
and I've never regretted it.  I've been able to add
features and scratch itches by simply adding a few
lines of python or DTML to my site.  I've now decided
that to address other issues (Calendaring/Events,
Blogging, and a "clients only" section of the site)
that I need to migrate to Plone.  I've been looking
around, and I am finding lots of stuff about
customizing the look and feel of Plone to meet my
needs.

Now, to clarify a couple of things.  Chris has not
done any work on my site, and we don't have any
business relationship.  He gave me some REALLY GOOD
ADVICE about looking at Zope/Plone, and I did the rest
on my own.  There's a lot of stuff out there, and
google's been my best friend!  I've been happy with
Zope, and I'm actively playing with customizing Plone
(as a beginner to Plone), and I've never regretted
using it.  And I have to PAY someone else to do my
Zope/Plone hosting for me.

Secondly, why not give Chris the access he needs to
fix the current issues with the Plone sites?  Why
throw the baby out with the bathwater?  That's my
biggest concern with suddenly trying to migrate off
Plone onto something else;  it's more efficient for
the project to have 20 people working on ONE solution,
than to have 20 people working on a dozen DIFFERENT
solutions.  Not to mention the loss of all the work
end users have done on the Users site.

So, that's my opinion as a small business owner and
end user of OGo, for what it's worth.  Let's hope we
can settle this quickly and in the most CIVIL of
fashions, because we don't want to loose any
volunteers.  I've spent almost 20 years working in
various volunteer organizations, and the one thing
that everyone wants is to be personally - and have
their work - appreciated.
