ACLs are not distinct (multiple groups can be assigned access to the  
same contact).

That is, a contact would then show up in multiple folders. Which is  
technically possible, but is bound to produce issues. Eg, what happens  
if you edit a contact in one folder in offline mode (or even online).  
The same contact in another folder won't get updated by the client  
until the next sync.

The Overview calendar has similiar issues. The Overview is something I  
really want to do on the client side.

(technically the best thing would be to introduce a hierarchy on the  
server which can be configured by the admin and/or user - but I don't  
see this happening anytime soon)
