AFAIK selling doesn't contradict open source, e.g.
one can say if you want to use my open source within
a commercial environment then you need to pay, see for instance
MySQL (dual-licensed). Of course a lot of people download it and
don't pay even if they should.

But this doesn't seem to be the case here. If I understand Boris 
correctly then
he is saying one can see the code only if one pays, but then this is not
open source anymore at least from the OSI point of view.

A lot of proprietary vendors are doing this in order to give the one
who is buying the software some trust or sometimes they don't show the code
but put it into a key-escrow account in case the company goes down the 
toilet
or whatever might happen.
