It seems like the really big "cost" seems to be facilities. Yet OSCOM in Zurich seemd to me to have had a very "we're not in it for money" feel, and therefore seems like we should be able to avoid the cost of facilities somehow. The requirements for facilities are fairly minor, basically 3 auditoriums for 3 days with projectors and space for 200 people. Does anyone have contacts with universities or large business that could sponsor OSCOM by "lending" their facilities. After that, the rest seems relatively reasonable. Especially if you can keep speaker costs and food costs down. There is a major missing piece, though: sponsors. Who were the sponsors for OSCOMs 3 & 4 and how much did they give? I understand it may not be possible to disclose this information, but it would really help us judge whether another US OSCOM would be feasible. And who to beg for money first. :) shimon.
