First of all: It's a guide for developers. Please apologize my current 
ignorance for "others", but
even for developers it became difficult without guide and I just felt 
the need to at least fill this gap.

Any help on writing guides for the "others" is greatly appreciated.

yeah, Lenya "build.xml" will do the magic, although you have to copy 
build.properties.sample to build.properties first and edit it 
appropriately.

no, not anymore, as long as you check it out with pserver as anonymous

I think Gregor put the nightly builds back, but you are right, the 
directory is closed:
