Since it's inception, the Xaraya project has been using a software
configuration management (SCM) tool providing distributed versioning
control. Xaraya is pleased to announce Monotone [http://venge.net/monotone/]
as their new distributed version control system. Monotone replaces our
previously used free Bitkeeper [http://bitmover.com] tool.

Bitkeeper has served the project well to date as a tool allowing
peer-to-peer, collaborative development among the project's developers,
spread across the world. However the new, opensource client announced by
Bitkeeper in March 2005 [http://www.bitkeeper.com/press/2005-03-17.html]
does not meet the development needs of the Xaraya project. Monotone
therefore replaces Bitkeeper as the project's choice for a free to use,
opensource SCM tool that meets the functional needs of a distributed and
collaborative development environment.

Xaraya's focus is on free, open source development of it's code. Since the
Bitkeeper opensource tool announcement and the followup announcement of
Bitkeeper's opensource migration plan in April
[http://www.bitkeeper.com/press/2005-04-05.html] this year, Xaraya's efforts
have also been concentrated on evaluating various SCMs and choosing a tool
that will continue to provide the focus and functionality the project's
development needs. Xaraya's Repository Manager, Marcel van der Boom, has
led this effort. With the help from members of the development team we now
have our new Monotone repositories in place. We are happy to announce the
conversion process to Monotone has preserved the Xaraya versioning history.
You can view the beginnings of our web based access to the repositories at
http://mt.xaraya.com/ (temporary).

Further announcements on our new processes using Monotone, and public access
to Xaraya code and versioning information will be announced in the coming
weeks. Check the Xaraya developer newsgroup and mailing list for updates.
Thanks to everyone for their efforts to date with ideas, discussion, and the
hard work involved in getting us to where we are now!
