In order to inform folks of what can be expected in the Xaraya2x effort,
here is a short list of actions I intend to see through initially for 2x

1. Establish a new repository for Xaraya2x: the current 2x repository is
called "unstable", an unfortunate choice that has hobbled its
credibility in the past. In accordance with the new PMC naming
conventions, the new repository will be com.xaraya.core.jamaica. The
Jamaica repository will contain the revisions of the "unstable"
repository, and the following additions:
a. a merge of the scenario com.xaraya.core.unstable.ddvalidations: this
contains enhancements to the dynamicdata properties code that allow for
a standardized configuration user interface for the properties.
b. a merge of the scenario com.xaraya.core.unstable.transitionmls: this
contains legacy changes to the BL2 compiler to support 1xtype
multilingual sites.
c. my own bugfixes and minor enhancements to the above, which can be
followed
here:http://mtn.netspan.ch/viewmtn.py/core/branch/changes/ch.netspan.xaraya.core

The other main 2x scenarios (newblocks, tableddl) contain enhancements
that will be reviewed and hopefully merged at a later date.

2. Review the codebase and have it looked over by the the PMC and QA
folks. I realize that there is not a lot of experience with 2x in the
community at large. Nonetheless it makes sense to have a few more eyes
on it even at this early stage, just in case something basic is amiss.
And of course anyone else who wants to pull it will be able to do so.

3. Create a demo site for Jamaica, so that folks can see it in action.

4. Publish it as a 2x "Pre-release" or "Alpha". This is basically in
line with the original 2x roadmap as published at
http://trac.xaraya.com/2x/roadmap.

5. Begin work on a common roadmap. Once there is an official release we
have a basis for further discussion about what directions Xaraya2x can
take. Starting point will be the trac roadmap, but this is open to
discussion as it was prioritized more than a year ago and the world
around us will have changed. I will also update the trac bugs as some
of them have been solved in the prerelease.

Once the ball gets rolling I will push to have a "real" 2x release
sooner rather than later.

Concerning trac I intend to keep it up as far as the current list of
bugs goes. New Jamaica bugs can go into bugzilla. I'm not a big fan of
bugzilla, as most will know, but I feel that the efforts at cleaning it
up made over the past months should be supported. Trac is a useful tool
for graphic display of the roadmap, and I think it makes sense to
continue using it. I won't however be adding to its content as the PMC
has asked that xaraya.com be the central stop for things Xaraya.

In line with PMC recommendations I will reopen the 2x development forum
I hung out on until last fall for the purposes of publishing notes on 2x
activity there. Important stuff will probably also get published on the
mailing list(s). I'll also be talking to folks one on one about
collaborating in the 2x effort as we move along.
