you could create a separate theme for this, so there's a separate 
pages/default.xt then reference it as ?theme=popup (e.g. themes/popup/)

another way is to replace the module page from within the article 
display template, by calling xarTplSetPageTemplateName('popup')
(file mytheme/pages/popup.xt)
