Re: Meeting in Linz

Hello everybody,

I developed a central menu to manage general site attributes like 
titles, descriptions and keywords, urls and title-tags, find out 
GooglePR for all Sub-Sites, Ranking for Keywords etc.. First it was just 
focused on SEO but it turned out that it's also very handy to set other 
parameters like Cache or Robot settings aso. By the way - it's 
completely programmed using the ZMS interface. Unfortunately it's not 
finished that's why I didn't publish it yet, but I would be pleased to 
give you a glimpse on it at the meeting if you are interested.

So I absolutely disagree that it's difficult to program the ZMS 
interface - there is just no documentation about how to do it. I also 
got only good feedback about the general ZMS Application. Maybe it's 
design is not "nice&fresh" but you can change the theme to anything you 
want. So I don't understand the trouble.
Indeed there is room for improvement, but I absolutely disagree to build 
a complete own solution. This will lead to two ZMS Versions witch 
wouldn't be very healthy for ZMS in general. Actually it's pretty easy 
to manipulate the ZMS interface - just take a look at the Teaser-Container.

To look at Typo3, Joomla and Wordpress as a samples for ZMS would be a 
step backwards. I'm using ZMS for over 7 years and I'm very convinced 
the ZMS was always ahead and still is. Please do not mistake shiny 
buttons and some AJAX magic for technological achievement.

All the things that where mentioned in that discussion so far are 
completely possible with the actual ZMS Version. So what I suggest is, 
that the discussion should be more of how to make this information 
accessible to the public and to improve and involve the ZMS community 
into the development and documentation, so one can see and understand 
the magic of ZMS.

I'm personally interested in a central Media-DB and media functionality 
like image gallery's, mediaplayer's YouTube integration etc. There are 
some attempts out there already but there are a couple pros and cons 
that I would like to discuss in a larger group and see what others think 
about that.

As I'm also hosting a larger number of ZMS instances myself I'm very 
much interested in performance optimization, caching strategies aso.


So my Agenda would look something like:

1) 1001 ZMS Websites - ZMS Performance and Caching Strategies
2) The dark magic of ZMS - Templating and interface manipulation
3) ZMS Multimedia-DB - Handling of Mediafiles in a central DB
4) Why Google likes ZMS and how to improve that
5) OpenSpace Session for Presentations of Your ZMS Solutions

Last but not least we need to find a date! As I'm very busy right now 
and the end of the year is already very close so would suggest January.


I also would very much appreciate to see Hoffmann+Liebenberg involved as 
I see no point in discussing ZMS development without them. Btw. I admire 
their work and appreciate very much what they have done so far for all 
of us.
