just for completion:

Tried current python 2.7 + current Zope 2.13.2 + current ZMS latest 
(2.13.0c1.1337 / from today) on

 - Linux (Gentoo)
 - NetBSD
 - FreeBSD

today with success again (virtualenv + easy_install way).

(Not) using -i makes no difference (as stated here).
