There doesn't seem to be any output for the failing test or command here.

That message can have many causes, e.g. the compiler segfaulting or  
the linker not finding a system library. Without the actual output,  
there's not really anything to go on.

As an aside, "gcc" is an alias for Clang on OS X nowadays (I think  
since Xcode 5), but shouldn't be relevant here (since you apparently  
got past the above stage with Xcode 7).
