There were several reasons for this: - the old build system is difficult to integrate into continuous integration systems - I failed to get the current build system running under MSYS2 - we have changed our windows toolchain to vcpkg (which allows a very simple integration of cmake packages) - furthermore we had some problems in the old build system (OmniOrb could only be compiled once under windows, that was fixed, but I don't know how anymore) - I was annoyed by the old buildsystem, it took me 2 days to find out that traditional make doesn't work anymore when you run automake once (because it simply overwrites data). Basically I think cmake is the new state of the art! Almost all of our new (IT) employees can use cmake and even Mircrosoft now supports it. It can also be easily integrated into all new DevOps tools. Of course you're right, it takes time to maintain another build system. I would be happy to help with the integration! Unfortunately I can't test all platforms.
