Hello all !

Though I do not compete this year I am keeping an eye on how it evolves, and
I would like to react to the last few ideas that were developped by Xavier
and Yann-Ael. I would have enjoyed a lot participating in the current
contest but I have unfortunately not as much free time as I'd need ;-(

Last year I was defeated the latest day of the latest round, after having
kept the top of the hall of fame for a few days. One year after I still
remember how frustrated I was, and I would have accepted my defeat much more
easily if I had lost 30-20 instead of 3-2. Today I still don't know if I was
the lucky guy before or if the winner was the lucky guy after. In any case
it is easier for the looser to accept the defeat when he has no doubt his
opponent was better. Thus I definitely approve the idea of increasing the
number of sets played per match: there should be more sets as we get closer
to the top of the hall of fame and closer to the contest deadline. In my
mind this should end with a 50 or 100 sets game for the ultimate match.

As for the change in the physics and game rules I would like to share a
remark: the contest has been alternatively very exciting and boring to
watch: exciting when the controllers were adapted to the physics and rules,
and boring after each major change. Each time it took at least 2 or 3 weeks
to get back to the previous level of interest. It is currently of a very
good level, thus a new change now seems really unsuitable to me, especially
if it is planned to make it evolve after the current contest ends.
Olivier: do you really think the change you are planning is that urgent?

I hope to see fights between very skilly controllers as we get closer to the
deadline, and would be sad if some of the current competitors give up as
many already did after a physics or rules change. The most meaningful
examples are probably Coyote and Albathor who have been keeping the top 2
positions for weeks a few months ago.

I hope to be back for next contest!

Best regards,

Manuel, formerly LostInSpace
