[bdbxml] Restricting result set

Is there any way to restrict the number of results added to the result
set brought back from queries to the DB XML Java API? It's probably
possible through XQuery to control the number of result returned,
however I was wondering if there is any way to all a query/result set
with a parameter? (without having to do any programming iterating the
result set to restrict the number of record returned/displayed)
