utf 8 problem with mysql-adminstrator 1.1.6

Just compiled the latest myql-administrator on my ubuntu 5.1 system. I received the following error: Character set 'utf8' is not a compiled character set and is not specified in the '/usr/share/mysql/charsets/Index' file So it won't connect to the local mysql db. How can I fix this problem? -- .''`. Carl B.
