except it needs patching  gcc-4.3 became much stricter about c++ standard 
compliance  and  i've still not managed to get it to build.

I can send you the patches that I am carrying in the fedora package. it allows 
mysql-gui-tools to build with gcc-4.3.2  and the current gtk.  the right fix is 
to drop the need to carry the embedded gtksourceview.

If it was properly opened up then yes.  a thorn in the gui-tools side has 
always been that while the result in open source  development is completely 
closed.  theres no way to access upstream source control, or participate in 
the development process.  and if there is i've missed that completely and not 
been able to find it.

eww  seriously.  putting it in a proprietary system?   sourceforge would be 
better.  I would suggest fedorahosted  you can keep svn there but that would 
require that contributors have an account in the fedora account system.

I don't know if its too late to garner community involvement,  you can only 
try.
