Well, MySQL has a very own model to manage access rights and it is not
easy to map this into a GUI. It seems sometimes to be illogical in
workflow, but I haven't seen it crash on my for a very long time (but
then I almost certainly know this feature too well so that I
instinctively avoid the pitfalls :-) ).

We are on the way, though not as you might expect. The GUI tools as
such won't be developed further, instead we will merge all their
functionality into MySQL Workbench. By re-implementing that in WB we
can fix design flaws and duplicate functionality which has gotten into
the legacy tools over the years, creating so a really great tool for
all the tasks a DBA might have today.
