Nothing outperforms a 15k rpm drive with SCSI. The larger the index files are the more the drive speed becomes important. Nothing will cost you more than a 15k rpm drive with SCSI. There is a pretty impressive difference between 10k rpm and 15k rpm drives. So, if you really need the speed, there is not other option for you.
