RE: Why Oracle is like it is? Why? Why?

While I love Oracle as the database of best choice for nearly
everything, I would have to agree.  It appears installation,
maintenance, dba support, development were designed as separate
commercial products.  This is one reason a seriously skilled tech person
is required to be a dba, which is stopping several businesses that I
consult for from even using it. ( Too expensive on a regular basis as
well as to buy. )

Anyway, to compare it to MS SQL Server, you could find the opposite is
true.  Nearly anyone can install, maintain, dba support, and develop for
it because the tools are built in, while any scalable, mission critical
application on any large scale is a risk with it.

It is subjective to say spending the resources on reliability,
flexiblity, performance, Java, is better than spending it on a
management interface.

However, I can say, SQL Navigator is a tool that a team of Oracle people
created, outside of the Oracle company, in order to better manage the
robust database.  And it is a tool of your dreams; however, it comes
into play 'after' you've got it installed and running.
