RE: exp and imp don't work

Probably a dumb question, but the database is on the server that you are 
running imp on isn't it?

What happens if you run sqlplus rather than imp at the command line? does it 
pick up the correct environment variables and display the appropriate "Enter 
user-name:" prompt?
