You are correct that I am trying to connect to MS SQL Server. According to the documentation you sent, the meaning of "Server" is: Hostname of a server. Used in an ODBC-only configuration. To specify a Microsoft SQL Server instance, use the form server\instance. I don't understand "server\instance". I tried a combination of servername/server/address, but no go. Very odd to me.
