DDD 3.3.12 (i386-apple-darwin15.5.0) gets Xt error

I have installed ddd using homebrew on a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.11.6.  My DISPLAY is set to “/private/tmp/com.apple.launchd.pITzOMeZvh/org.macosforge.xquartz:0”.  The problem is 100% repeatable: just run ddd on a program compiled for debug using Xcode command line utilities.  I have xquartz 2.7.9 installed via brew cask.
