Good to know. I will give it a try; I do have a test Devuan machine.
I'm not a big fan of systemd either.

Oh dear.

I wonder if there are enough ROX users to have a whip-round and get a
bounty scheme together to pay someone to help with this?

I discovered recently that ROX has some indirect offspring that is
quite big: the AppImage distribution format.

AppImage is the vendor-neutral Linux cross-distro single-file app
distribution format, rival to Red Hat's Flatpak and Ubuntu's Snap.
It's easier and has no dependencies or requirements and can be used
without root privileges.

ROX always came with 0install, which I personally don't like or use.

AppImage is a derivative of 0install -- instead of a directory, it
packages the files inside a compressed standalone mountable
filesystem.
