GeForce 8400 GS is an entry level card with one core (there is no such 
thing as a "GTX 8400", "GTX" marking is for high end GeForce 7, 8 and 9 
series and in their model names it's after the model number and for the 
middle and high end GeForce 200 series, where it is before the model 
number).

There are no mainstream multicore GPUs in existence yet and there are 
only a handful of multi-GPU solutions (either one PCB or two PCB cards) 
in the market (GeForce 9800 GX2, GTX 295 and Radeon HD 3850 X2, 3870 X2, 
4850 X2, 4870 X2).

There is no 8900. 8800 line is long discontinued. I don't know what kind 
of performance you are looking for, but let's say 10x your CPU 
performance (500 Mkeys/s) should be reachable with something like a GTX 
280 ($300). 5x your CPU (250 Mkeys/s) might be possible with a 9800 GT 
($100). Even a 9500 GT costing only about $50 should do double your CPU 
keyrate.

I have a Windsor (dual core, "Athlon 64 X2 5000+") @ 2.8GHz giving about 
22.3 Mkeys/s, while my G92 ("GeForce 8800 GT") @ 650MHz gives about 305 
Mkeys/s.
