Re: Slightly OT - sicas applet

The client JVM depends more on the functions you will need from the local
code, in our case, printing complex documents forced the use of java plug-in
1.4.1+, we user jasper reports, this approach uses also an applet to preview
and print the reports/docs/forms etc

Uses standard https using a simple post on standard ports, we need to
address a complex network of 5 states with thousends of computers each, this
means too many to risks if using other protocols. Also webservices were
early technologies when the original architecture was planned, but i doubt
about the need of the use of abstract parsing technologies when you know
that the sides talking are known to be on the same technology and language,
i've seen too many projects suffering from what i call "conversion
crazyness", keep it simple or spend hours optimizing code, is what i think.

Yes, the applet needs to register itself on the local JVM asking for several
privileges and be signed for that reason and others (security is also an
issue when you use remote code execution & declaration), saving things
locally, printing and connecting to other servers from the applet are good
reasons to do that.
