Mike,
I really hate to argue with you, of all people. For you got me
started with Hercules, and your MVT system was the first running
under Hercules that I ever logged-on to. I feel nothing for you but
friendliness and gratitude. Nonetheless, I feel compelled to
comment.
There is quite a large difference, I humbly submit, betwixt Phil
Payne and Volker Bandke.
The former, I believe, has an axe to grind. What this axe might be
I can't say for sure, but I'd be willing to bet it has something to
do with an association of some sort with Fundamental Software.
The latter, on the other hand, has no axe to grind at all. He's one
of us, a fact so transparent and obvious that I hardly need to state
it.
The former, before he was banned from the Hercules-390 group (over
the strong objections of some of us who would rather avoid all forms
of censorship because 1. it's repugnant to us on principle and 2.
it's easier to deal with a threat that you can argue with than one
you cannot), was constantly attempting to prove that Hercules was
written as- and being used as a piracy tool. His apparent mission
is to do away with Hercules.
The latter, on the other hand, has worked tirelessly in support of
Hercules, retro computing, and so on. His apparent mission, if he
engages anyone in discussions of their legal right to run current
software under Hercules, is to protect the platform, not to tear it
down. For only if these people are questioned is it clear that the
rest of us are not interested in piracy.
Regards,
Bomber
