I worked with a fellow in the 70's that was forced by his ties to
his family to move back to India and continue the family line. He
and a brother and sister were all established here and happy.
He ended up having to move back and now is in charge of
several thousand programmers in Bangalor at a major company.
I saw him some years ago on a PBS program and sent him email
and found he had changed little from the nice fellow I had worked
with here in Orange county, CA.
I have a hard time putting a bad face on these fellows. My friend
was as good a fellow to work with here as I have ever known, and
probably was more talented than I was. He helped write a large
portion of the Kernel of an OS we were developing at the time.
Those are the good old days to long for, when machine architecture
meant something to programmers like us, and there were some
decisions left to make when doing your job.
They are all rolled up into single chips now going at clock rates
I never would have imagined possible then.
That said, moving forward, we will survive by our wits, and
invent a way to do things that will survive with things being done
there, or not. There is no way to stop the "export" of jobs,
whether we loose them directly, or never see them as other nations
develop technologically, and neglect to ever send us the technologies
in the first place.
