   Because, like it or not, the open source nature of Hercules
 does make it a viable platform for unscrupulous people to pirate 
IBM software. I'm not saying any Hercules hobbyist or developers 
are doing so.
   Flex-Es is donglized and will only run the licensed copy at 
the licensed capacity.

   If it wasn't for the legal issue and the fact that real Big 
Iron's RAS is yet out of reach of Intel, you can imagine a relatively 
cheap piece of hardware competing directly in the low end z/890 and
certainly with Flex-Es.

   It's in IBM and Flex-Es' financial interest to maintain control.
