From what I remember for NJE links it needs SENDFILE and I also think its
REXX with lots of dependencies on EXECIO and possibly XEDIT so no use in the
free VM/370

Rather than writing a CMS email client, you may want to take a look at
RiceMail first. It has almost all of the features that a modern email client
needs. It was available through many user distribution sites, including the
VM Workshop tapes.

Both.

I've written code to make the RSCS that comes with VM/370 to do NJE so it
can talk to newer NJE implementations while retaining compatibility with
what
it could originally do. I've also come up with a Hercules device which can
transport NJE over TCP/IP to create NJE links across the internet.

Applications are hard to come by so far (SENDFILE / RECEIVE / TELL for CMS
are
nearly there) but I hope to start working on a basic CMS email client once I
get the knots worked out of the NJE code.
