Same here, as to how I approached things via list servers. For example
the company behind LISTSERV did for a time market a release for the
mainframe, specifically not the VM/370 release we know and love.
Actually for the MS/370 arrangement that had primitive TCP/IP support.
They discontinued it thinking there was no market in it.
At a trade show not all log ago as it happens I bumped into the
marketing droids from the firm and carefully asked them about how hard
it would be to spin up a newer release of the product Naturally for
the OS/390 kluidge and then eventually early Z/OS builds, and since a
TCP.IP stack does exist for the what VM is doing now, that as well.
And even the early Linux methods on the big guy.
They tried to tell me that would be expensive, and besides who would
buy it? I told them that several hundred thousand sites who support
users for discussion purposes. I did not mention what MARIST does for
the entire community and also UARK.
And once when Hercules developed a stack and also would communicate
via the host's methods either using the FISH methods or the native
one, when on Linux, I thought of spinning up a fully featured
distribution and including the appropriate MAILMAN arrangement.
Incidentally all of that surfaced about the time SuSe first announced
and even Debian but not Red Hat.
I strongly suspect the two named Dave who work with an audience will
think about this and have an interesting time responding. But Dave M,
really letting the Yetis do all the difficult work upgrading Mailman
when they have work of their own? Really.
