 Sadly, there are several hundred things in Pauls bow. PDOS is an OS. It runs just fine on my P/390 so it works on real hardware.
 It looks a bit like MSDOS but also runs some MVS software, so it supports a similar set of interfaces to those in the VM/370 OS simulation.
 There is nothing "un mainframe" about this. Most of the non-IBM OS's such as MTS and MUSIC also work in a similar way.

 What is pissing me off is his fixation with running character mode software on IBM mainframes.  
 Yes you can do it on a modern machine but to me its done in such a complex way its more un-IBM than the way Paul does it.
 I guess in effect it works in a similar way to running LINUX software on Windows. There must be virtually a whole copy UNIX under the covers.
 AND  of course the terminal has to connect via TCPIP.

 It still must be horribly inefficient because the LAN interface must be generating an interrupt per packet when running like this?

And Paul, 

Please keep discussion about character mode terminals on the 380 list. The only way that character mode terminals get into a Mainframe is via TCPIP.
The rest, its line at a time block mode/ line mode all the way...
.... and did you know that even the VT100 does block mode, just DEC never used it much, Not sure if its part of the ANSI spec...
