That's why I suggested that someone leaves messages in here from time to
time redirecting new members to the Groups.io group. If a message is
left every couple of days then new signups won't have to wait long to
see what has happened. It's less than ideal but as good as it would get.
However, I had forgotten (as you go on to point out) that this group
isn't going to be getting any new members anyway because there is no
active admin/mod to authorise new members under Yahoo's new regime.

This sort of things happens a lot from what I've seen (I don't just mean
in this community). Unless you can get the current admins/mods to hand
things over then this group is effectively finished in terms of new
members. Instead of dwelling on the frustrations of getting other people
to act, it strikes me that it's better to just get on and use the new group.
Let's face it, as others have said, Yahoo has effectively signalled the
death of Yahoo Groups anyway. The sooner we move away the better.
As I recall, I originally found this this group via a combination of
Googling and links from relevant websites. Well, there's nothing
stopping the new group being promoted in the same way.
And, last but not least, may I suggest that ownership/admin for the new
group be spread over as many (trusted!) people as possible to avoid
future problems along these lines. :-)
