Hi,

we're a free software project. I'm using Hercules with MVS to play. But we need z/OS for porting Free Software to this platform.

We rent a virtual machine at Dallas ISV center. They promised a lot for $550 a month – and we didn't read the small print. We ended up with an invoice of ~$9000 for one month (!)

The machine is so slow that even our cheapest PC is running circles around it. But such a price tag is not in our budget; it would be more than $100'000 per year. We have to quit.

Therefore, does anyone know where we can port Free Software to USS in z/OS? Is there any way of renting a virtual machine or something like that in a price range, which we can afford? The result is Free Software + a binary distribution, which can be used by everyone under /usr/local ;-)

P.S.: the new Perl version is now ported, too. Willl update soon.
