Regardless, for a freeware project targeting z/OS USS, I think most people would just use a bootleg z/OS ADCD under Hercules. However, given that you're willing to pay $550/month, you can afford to obtain a legal z/OS from IBM. It only costs something like US$6000. It's called zPDT. Also note that IBM said that they intended making z/OS available on the cloud one day. BFN. Paul.
