Hmm.. I don't remember VM High Performance Option requiring CP SET 
ECMODE ON virtual machines (and much less a virtual machine with an EC 
mode PSW.. CMS didn't change - and CMS by then was STILL a BC mode 
operating system).

Well.. Virtual that is...

On the host system, of course it's an EC Mode PSW (but so is it for 
VM/370 !). Also VM/HPO requires S37E (Which is yet something completely 
different : 4K storage keys and S/370 AE (NOT S/370 XA - AE is the 26 
bit Page addresses in DAT).

Even VM/XA allows a BC mode PSW in a S/370 mode virtual machine (but 
there's no 'CP SET ECMODE OFF' there).
